🧠 Ted Talk Tuesday: Mental Health in the Design World 🎨
Let’s get real for a sec.
This design world? It’s full of creativity, passion, talent—and unfortunately, a whole lotta drama, cliques, and childish cattiness too. And if you live with mental health struggles like I do, it hits differently.
I have Borderline Personality Disorder. That means I often don’t fully know who I am. I’m constantly shifting, splitting, second-guessing, and trying to piece together a stable version of myself—one I can trust. (Spoiler: trust is not my strong suit.) It’s exhausting.
So I create based on what I like, what I feel in the moment, and what I hope others might love too. Sometimes it’s 90s grunge. Sometimes it’s southern sass. Sometimes it’s total chaos because I’m a fish outta water trying to swim in every direction at once. 🤷♀️
Oh, and I challenged myself to use all the clipart I buy, so there’s that mess too. 😂
What I won’t do is niche down. I probably can’t—because of my BPD, my OCD, my anxiety, depression, and bipolar disorder all having a group chat in my brain at once. But creating? That’s my therapy. It’s how I tune out the noise and calm the storm.
The thing is—this community can either be a safe space or a toxic minefield. The drama? The cliques? The passive-aggressive jabs? They don’t just hurt feelings—they kill creativity.
So if you’re struggling with mental health while trying to run a biz, show up online, and survive this wild industry… I see you. You’re not alone. You don’t need to hide it or fake it. Be honest. Be real. Be kind. That’s how we heal AND create.
💬 I’d love to hear from others—does your mental health ever make business harder? How do you cope and keep showing up?
